Do you have some time to kill and need extra income? There are several ways to generate a secondary source of income without leaving the comfort of your own home. It’s surprising how many home employment opportunities exist. Anyone with a few hours to spare can earn extra money.

Check out these ways to stay at home and earn money in your free time:
Freelancing. With the capabilities of the internet and associated technologies, working from home is a snap. Whether your talent is writing, graphics, building websites, or voice-over work, there’s no end to the amount of work available for a freelancer. Start creating and develop a portfolio of examples of your work and let everyone know via social media you are available. You can also create digital products using Canva and sell them on Etsy.
No matter what your skills might be, there’s someone out there looking for you. Check out one of the many freelance websites such as UpWork and Fiverr to get started.
Telemarketing. Any place with a telephone is suitable for your telemarketing headquarters. It’s a job that few enjoy, so there are usually employers looking for callers. If you have a pleasant voice and can deal with rejection, telemarketing can be an easy and flexible way to earn some money.
Sell essential oils and bath salts. I recommended buying in bulk and making gift sets to sell before every major holiday. This will bring in some extra money that could turn into something bigger. For example, I created a bath bomb business with my mom in 2016 that was acquired by a larger company in 2018 and at this writing in 2023, is now on the stock exchange as part of a larger entity. You never know what could happen with a small business like this. Scan and organize old photos into digital files. Not everyone has the time and equipment to do this one right, but if you do or have a little money to invest in the purchase of a digital scanner, you can charge a fee to take someones old photo albums and transfer them to digital files. Save the files to a portable hard drive (include the cost of the drive in your fee), and then deliver the old photos and albums. along with the digital drive to your customer.
Begin with offering your service to family, friends, and neighbors. You might be able to generate enough referrals to stay busy without additional advertising.

Nail trimming for pets. It's not an easy thing to learn to do without hurting or causing your fur-baby to bleed. This is why most people won't do it themselves. It's important to learn where the quip is in the nail so you don't cut into it. A professional groomer may charge $20 for nail trims, so if you charge $18, the pet owner saves money and you make money for something that may take you 20 or 30 minutes to complete. It may take longer if you have a scared pet, so let the pet owner know they can return for their pet in an hour.
Most of the time, it's easy money for an easy enough task you can do from your patio or backyard. It takes skill and patience, but you can earn extra money offering to trim nails for elderly pet owners who may have a hard time getting their pets to the groomers or are unable to do it themselves. Sound crazy? I have actually done this. It started as me asking my neighbors if I could groom their small dogs as part of my grooming training. As a result, I picked up a few ongoing clients and word got around, so more and more neighbors would call or stop by as they passed my home to inquire if they could bring their pet for a full groom or nail trims.
If you decide to do this, make sure you invest in a few different size clippers because not all nails are the same size, and styptic powder and q-tips or cotton pads as well as a pack of variety cloth muzzles. I had a few dogs nip at me, so just be careful to make the pet feel comfortable while you protect yourself. Styptic powder stops bleeding and kills pain in the event you accidentally cut too low causing the pets quip to bleed. If you would like training on this, check out YouTube or reach out to me and I can refer you to an affordable online school where you can learn full grooming techniques of various dog breeds.
Data Entry. Most jobs pay for each entry rather than by the hour. It’s a great job if you have a few spare minutes here and there. It’s super flexible and can work around any schedule. With focus and fast fingers, you can generate a reasonable income. Tutoring. Part-time tutors can make $30 or more per hour. You might have to brush up on your geometry or Latin, but tutoring can be a lucrative way to spend your free time. There are many working parents who have had to return to the office now that the pandemic is mostly behind us, and they may be looking for someone to help their children with homework after school until they get off work. Additionally, some families are looking for homeschooling options and if you can support their efforts and teach a subject they are less knowledgeable in, you could help as well as earn.
Translate. Are you skilled in a second language? There are many opportunities to translate conversations and documents. While certifications are required to translate for large companies and government agencies, they’re totally unnecessary for translating a love letter or a conversation on Skype or Zoom .
Rent out a room. If you have the space to spare, rent out a room. A good roommate can be a blessing and help you cover the bills. It might help your social life, too.You can also check out room renting options with Airbnb. Some people have even listed their driveways or yards on the platform.
Host a party. You could also allow your friends to use your home or backyard as a party location, and then keep a percentage of the profits. There are parties for housewares and food storage, candles, and numerous other types of products. While these parties are typically held in the homes of others, host the parties yourself. You can also consider turning a room or part of your home or backyard into a dynamic space for Instagram Reels or TikTok Shorts that you rent to individual users or influencers. This one might take a small financial investment, but think about how successful it could become. I have a friend who owns an event space and I always have the option to use this venue for public speaking events and my friend benefits by being able to keep a portion of what I bring in at every event. I love a win-win, don't you?
Sell ad space on a personal blog. Create a blog and then sell ads on your website. You can sell the ad space directly or sign up with Google Adsense. With Google, they’ll post relevant ads for you, and you’ll receive money whenever someone clicks on the ad.
Furniture re-arranger. Don't knock this idea. I once developed a reputation for having the knack of re-arranging furniture and creating an ideal space for all sorts of activities in the same room. I started with my own shared apartment. My roommates and I often had people over and we needed a super functional space for conversation, bible study and entertainment. So I arranged the furniture for all these activities and our guests were so impressed and also on a limited budget. Word spread and I often re-arranged peoples existing furniture to define spaces for a variety of uses. You might be able to offer this service on an app such as Task Rabbit.
Whether you’re in dire straits or just need an activity to fill your spare time, a secondary or part-time source of income could be the solution. Someone almost certainly has a need that fits your skill set perfectly. Find them and share your services. It might be the most enjoyable money you’ll ever earn.
I hope this information was helpful, and as always I wish you all the best in your job search, career advancement and business building.
